A fun romp in an alternate history England where the Crimean War is still being fought, among many other changes. I really like Thursday, our heroine. She is very brave but very realistically so. She doesn't have a smart comeback to everything bad or annoying that someone might say to her and she gets stymied by bureaucracy. So much like real life, despite being in such a delightfully weird world, that I couldn't help but root for her. The literature aspect was really great too. In this version of English society, literature is more important than TV and almost seems like a religion of its own. The characters have lots of discussions about Shakespeare and, obviously from the title, the entire book involves Jane Eyre. Fans of English literature will have a ball with this one.
